Venue: Roblar Winery

I am a big fan of wine country weddings. There is something both relaxed and romantic about them. Rustic buildings and oak barrels. Huge oak trees and sprawling green lawns. Vineyards heavy with grapes as a backdrop and the sun setting over the rolling hills of the Santa Ynez Valley. Bliss.

Roblar Winery is one of the newer vineyards, and certainly one of the newer event venues of Santa Barbara wine country. It is a spectacular venue with gorgeous architecture that is modern and cozy at the same time. Last week I had a planning meeting there with Kim and Stan, who are getting married at Roblar this September. By the end of our meeting, the details were all coming together and I gotta tell you, it's going to be GORGEOUS! I am so excited for their wedding, and it couldn't be for a sweeter couple. I'll certainly share photos after the fact, but in the meantime ... If you're looking for an event venue, consider Roblar and call Beta Silva, www.roblarwinery.com.

I recently had the pleasure of working with Josh Newton Photography on Nicole and Tyler's wedding ... What a joy. Totally professional, totally fun and totally original. I've been perusing his site lately and fell in love with these images from another wedding he did. Totally Fabulous!!

Check out his Web site and book him - you won't regret it. And stay tuned, I cannot wait to share some of the photos from Nicole and Tyler's - they're gorgeous! (Oh, and by the way, that's Nicole and Tyler on the home page!) xoxo

Malibu Sunset and Cocktails

August 19, 2009

Luca and I made the drive to Malibu on Monday night for cocktails and a beautiful sunset with my fellow vendors participating in The Wedding Salon. Held at the aptly named Sunset Restaurant, it was an evening filled with yummy cocktails like the Moscow Mule, great folks and a beautiful view. The restaurant is situated on a secluded stretch of Zuma Beach, making it a fantastic spot for a beach ceremony. And check out the ceiling on the dining room -- the possibilities are tremendous! The dining room can seat 120 for dinner, which is a great size.

I've been talking with a bride over the last few weeks that is considering this venue for her wedding - How fabulous! I look forward to returning ... whether for Haley's wedding, or even if just for another cocktail! xoxo

Come Meet Me at The Wedding Salon!

August 18, 2009

Calling all brides (and grooms) to be! Here's your chance to come meet me - and check out all kinds of other fabulous vendors from florists and photographers to rental companies and more. I've been invited to participate in this year's show by The Wedding Salon. An upscale show for discerning couples, you can do one-stop shopping for all of your wedding vendors. There are even sample sales for couture dresses and shoes! The whole thing is set up like a wedding reception, so it's really inspirational to walk around and check out the different table decor and vignettes. Seriously - check out pictures here from previous years' shows!

Shoot me an email to donna@donnaromanievents.com if you'd like to attend. I hope to see you there!!!

Float Luxury Spa

August 10, 2009

I love Spas. I love being pampered. I love when someone is actually able to work out one of those giant knots in my shoulders. I'm not a stressful person, but I do believe in preventive measures and taking time to rejuvenate yourself. I come out relaxed and happy; like I'm floating.

I also believe - one hundred percent - in spa parties! And FLOAT Luxury Spa in Santa Barbara is a great place to get together with your girls (or guys) for a special occasion such as birthdays or bridal showers. Float has great deals on spa parties, including:

Viva la Fiesta!

August 7, 2009

Santa Barbara absolutely explodes every year as the masses descend upon our little town for FIESTA! Fiesta, formally Old Spanish Days, is a week long celebration honoring the heritage of Santa Barbara from Spain, Mexican and the California Rancho period. It is filled with parades and rodeos and vibrant colors and eggs bursting with multi-colored confetti that hit you when you least expect it and are immediately followed by the giggling of children. But the best part is the food - tamales and tortas and the requisite margarita - YUM!

For those of you planning summer events in Santa Barbara, you definitely want to take note of Fiesta dates (this year August 5-9). It can be a lot of fun for out of town guests to be a part of something so spectacular. But it can also be an enormous headache if you inadvertently schedule your event on Fiesta weekend and have not planned ahead. Hotels are booked a year in advance and do not offer room blocks Fiesta weekend. Traffic is a nightmare and streets are closed everywhere. However, with a little foresight, it can be a great tie in and a lot of fun. The bright colors are so happy, and as I mentioned, the food amazing. VIVA LA FIESTA!

Sunday Brunch

August 3, 2009

Sunday brunch with the girls is a New York tradition that I miss dearly. The wait to get into Bubby's or Balthazaar's could be long, but you had hot coffee and all the week's gossip to catch up on. Nowadays Sunday brunch is a little simpler but still one of my favorite things in the world. I sleep in late, catching up on my zz's after a long Saturday working a wedding that I've poured my heart and soul into. Once out of bed, Luca and I take the pooch for a lazy walk and he asks me about everything that happened. And I'm still sharing by the time we get back home and make brunch. Brunch is the most restorative meal I know. There is something about bacon and eggs that builds you back up both physically and emotionally. And to go with it ... a latte, yes, but even better ... a bellini! Oh my, I love bellinis! And in my house, where Luca believes Arrigo Cipriani is God, the only kind of bellini is the original served at Harry's Bar in Venice. Beautiful fresh white peaches, pealed and pureed (never yellow peaches), topped with Prosecco. The proportions are 1 part peach puree to 3 parts Prosecco. So good!!! How long 'til next Sunday?
